The world’s highest swing ride opened to the public at a Texas Theme Park this weekend.
The 400-foot-high Texas SkyScreamer, at the Six Flags Over Texas theme park in Arlington, Texas, carries riders on open-air swing chairs attached to a giant tower. The 124 ft-wide gondola spins at a speed of 35 miles per hour upon reaching the top of the tower.
Up to 24 people at a time can enjoy panoramic views of the park below, as well as the Dallas Cowboys football stadium and Texas Rangers baseball stadium. Riders can also see the cityscapes of downtown Forth Worth and Dallas, located about 15 miles east of Arlington.
“It’s just a swing, but with a great view” Haidee Ferrer, of Kennedale, Texas, who was among the first to sample to new ride on Thursday, told the Star Telegram.
The Texas SkyScreamer will be open at the park until August 25.
There are seven SkyScreamer rides at various Six Flags theme parks across the US, with the second tallest being in Georgia, standing at a height of 242 feet. Its 98-foot-wide core spins at 40 miles per hour.
“We are thrilled to add the tallest swing ride in the world to our premier line up of rides and attractions’ said Steve Martindale, park president of Six Flags Over Texas. “It offers the most unique ride experience for an attraction of this kind, and also lives up to the Texas mantra that everything is bigger in the Lone Star state."
Earlier this year, Dubai revealed plans to build the world’s tallest Ferris wheel at a height of 660 feet as part of a new tourism complex, while last year plans for a 624-foot ferris wheel in New York were announced.
