Krasnaya Polyana, known also as the Russian Courchevel, is one of the larger and most famous ski and snowboard resorts in Russia. It will host the 2014 Winter Olympics; this great event will transform the resort into a modern world-class destination. The ski resort boasts a reputation of offering great service, well-maintained pistes for all abilities, fast and convenient lifts, the best rescue team in Russia, quality apres-ski, a great array of comfortable mini hotels at the village, and overly high prices. Only here you can enjoy the Russian ski slopes in combination with the western standards for hospitality, kitchen and accommodation services. The locals are very friendly and the ski resort is completely safe.
The name of resort means Red Glade because of the dark-red leaves of a fern and cherries in the fall.
Krasnaya Polyana is situated 75 km from the center of Sochi and 45 km from the nearest airport at Adler city, at an altitude of about 600 meters above sea level, surrounded by spectacular mountains of the Main Caucasus mountain range. In Adler also there is a train station making Krasnaya Polyana the most accessible mountain resort in the European part of Russia. Because of the enormous developments that the area is going through for the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics, the ski slopes, transport connections and accommodation are constantly being improved that makes the ski resort more attractive to enjoy your vacation. Due to easy access, thousands of Russians choose to spend their week-ends at Kransya Polyana during the winter season, which begins in the middle of December and lasts until the start of March. The winter guests can be 100% sure, that their "playgrounds" will be covered with natural snow; some reports claim that snow depths there can reach 7 m - very deep by European standards.

The rapidly developing ski lift system together with heli ski offers the most exiting skiing experience in Europe wintertime. The are 4 major ski resorts where you can ski: Alpika service, Laura, Gornaya Karusel and Roza Khutor ski tracks. The last teo have not been opened yet (under construction).
Snowboarding, helicopter skiing, paragliding, snow mobile rentals, hot air balloon rides and more provide guests with a vast range of activities. Krasnaya Polyana Ski Resort has direct access to 25 km of downhill skiing, served by 6 ski lifts. The longest run is no less than 13km in length. The best slopes are located on the northern part of the Aibga Ridge with the longest 4 km in length over a 1200 m vertical. There is no snow making machines, that is why the lower slopes can suffer, but only at the end of the season.
The only disadvantage of the ski resort is its small size. But there are plans of massive expansion due to the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics, so who knows, maybe in a few years this place will be one of the greatest winter destinations.
The prices for the lifts and accommodation are more expensive than at other Russian ski resorts (although cheaper than in Europe).
